Hong Kong Study Tour Preparation

Well, I started my blog with my experience in Hong Kong study tour. The type of language I used may be monotonous but will try my best to make it interesting yet informational.

*Breath in...* Fuh, Ok, I was elected as the tour representative, let start with a brief introduction of the study tour.

Hong Kong Geotechnical Study Tour 2010 was organised under UTM Global Outreach Programme (GOP) at 10th to 18th of May 2010 for 8 nights. We were accompanied by Prof Aminaton and Dr Hisham throughout our trip.

As committee for GOP Hong Kong was formed 2 months before the departure and final examinations period was a month before the trip, important matters such as tentative of programme, flight ticket, accommodation and transportation need to be confirmed before our departure. In the early stage of planning, there is ...blah..blah...blah... (Skip ^^)

We manage to get our air ticket in group of 32 person for RM875/pax (both ways include taxes) from Cathay and Chartis travel insurance RM45/pax through Huang Yau family’s company. After comparing in term of budget, location, facilities provided, we decided to stay at USA Hostel (Quadruple Deluxe Private Ensuite) HKD830/pax for 8 nights. Miscellaneous expenses before trip such as UTM t-shirt for RM27/pax, RM50 for a banner, RM10 for booklet. Regarding on transportation at HK, Kwoon Chung offers us the best price for HKD167/pax for our transportation at HK.

Our estimated budget was each of us need to come out at least RM1000 for the whole trip as RM1000 already sponsored by UTM. Besides that, there is a group of participant will in charge to find the attractions in Hong Kong by produce a leaflet to all participants. Tasks have been delegated to each participants so that everyone have the chance to contribute to this study tour.

We gather at KLIA airport at 3pm, have some briefing of the trip, insurance coverage and things to be aware of in Hong Kong. After 3.5 hours flight, we arrive at HK at night, 10th of May 2010. By the way, personally I felt Cathay service was comparable to MAS.

  1. Eric...Well done! I had the chance to read your blog after coming back from GOP in Sydney Australia. We also had a good time in Sydney & the students coming with me were also very helpful like before...Tq. Prof Aminaton
